To celebrate the traditional Chinese festival, Mid-autumn festival and the 60th Chinese National Day in city Davis, Chinese Students and Scholars Fellowship (CSSA) is holding Mid Autumn Festival Performance at Freeborn Hall, UCD (University of California, Davis) campus from 7pm to 10pm on Sunday, October 4th, 2009.
Mid-Autumn Festival, the most celebrated Chinese traditional festival, was referred to the “Fifteenth of the Eighth Moon” in the Lunar Calendar, the night with the brightest and most beautiful full moon throughout the year. It is also a popular harvest festival celebrating abundant fruits, vegetables and grain. At this night of reunion, Chinese people gather together with family and friends.
We use our unique way to celebrate this greatest festival by holding a large performance with singing, dancing, acting mini drama and performing martial art. This activity will spread out Chinese culture to our community and share our joy and happiness with the locals.
2009 is also 60th anniversary of founding People's Republic of China. As the biggest Chinese student organization in Davis and Sacramento areas, CSSA cooperates with all other Chinese students associations to organize this performance to celebrate China 60th National Day. The number of attendants this year will unprecedentedly pass 1200 compared with 400 of previous year. The impact of Mid Autumn Festival Performance reaches out to many Chinese communities and groups in Sacramento and even bay area. Our performers consists mainland Chinese students, Hong Kong students and American born Chinese. Some famous performing groups in Bay area are also invited to join us. Three local media has already reported our preparation for performance. This is the biggest event in Sacramento Chinese community.
Our programs including traditional Chinese Fan Dance and Kong Fu, as well a song sang by six kinds of different Chinese dialects show the audience authentic Chinese traditions. A stage play reflecting oversea students’ life also reveals dreams and ups and downs of Chinese students in a foreign country. Through colorful and impressive programs, we spread Chinese culture to international students, bring great influence to campus, and get Chinese students more involved in overall aspects of academic, cultural and political life in local community. Mid Autumn Festival Performance bridges the communication between Chinese students and students from different races and different countries.
On behalf of this great festival, we honorably invite you to attend our performance. Your attendance will be a great encouragement for our work and will deepen our interaction.
Sincerely yours,
Hengkui Wu
President of CSSA
